Parallel Discrete Event Simulation Using Shared Memory

چکیده
Absrract-With traditional event list techniques, evaluating a detailed discrete event simulation model can often require hours or even days of computation time. By eliminating the event list and maintaining only sufficient synchronization to ensure causality, parallel simulation can potentially provide speedups that are linear in the number of processors. We present a set of shared memory experiments using the Chandy-Misra distributed simulation algorithm to simulate networks of queues. Parameters of the study include queueing network topology and routing probabilities. number of processors, and assignment of network nodes to processors.

Parallel Discrete Event Simulation Using Space-Time Memory
An abstraction called space-time memory is discussed that allows parallel discrete event simulation programs using the Time Warp mechanism to be written using shared memory constructs. A few salient points concerning the implementation and use of space-time memory in parallel simulation are discussed. It is argued that this abstraction is useful from a programming standpoint for certain applica...
متن کاملParallel Discrete Event Simulation on a Shared - Memory Multiprocessor
Many large-scale discrete event simulation computations for modeling telecommunication networks , computer systems, transportation grids, and a variety of other applications are excessively time consuming, and are a natural candidate for parallel execution. However, discrete event simulations are challenging to parallelize because cause-and-eeect relationships determine dependencies between sim...
متن کاملParallel DaSSF Discrete-Event Simulation without Shared Memory
The Dartmouth implementation of the Scalable Simulation Framework (DaSSF) is a discreteevent simulator used primarily in the simulation of networks. It achieves high performance through parallel processing. DaSSF 1.22 requires shared memory between all processors in order to operate. This limits the number of processors available and the hardware platforms that can exploit parallelism. We are i...
متن کاملSynchronous Parallel Discrete Event Simulation on Shared-Memory Multiprocessors
This paper describes the implementation and studies the performance of a synchronous , parallel discrete event simulation (SPDES) method on a shared memory multiprocessor. The presented method aims at the eecient simulation of architectural designs for which the asynchronous PDES methods seem to be less eeective. A multiprocessor machine is simulated, and the performance achieved is compared to...
متن کاملImplementing MPI Based Portable Parallel Discrete Event Simulation Support in the OMNeT++ Framework
In this paper, we introduce our Message Passing Interface (MPI) based Object-Oriented parallel discrete event simulation framework. The framework extends the capabilities of the OMNeT++ simulation system. In conjunction with this project, our research efforts also include the development of synchronization methods suitable for architectural properties of the distributed-memory and shared-memory...
